Required To Breed Pigs
- 2 Pigs
- 2 Carrots, potatoes, OR beetroots
Steps To Breed Pigs
1. Find Two Pigs To Breed
We first need to find two pigs to start the breeding process. If you're having trouble finding pigs you can summon them with a cheat or use a spawn egg.

We need the pigs to remain close to each other, so it's a good idea to build a fence around them as you can see in our example.
2. Feed The Pigs
Next, with the pigs near each other, we need to feed each pig either carrots, potatoes, or beetroots. In our example, we will be using carrots. Select the carrots in your Hotbar and feed each pig separately using the following game controls:
- Java Edition (PC/Mac), Windows 10 Edition, Education Edition: right click on the pig.
- Pocket Edition (PE): tap on the pig.
- Xbox 360, Xbox One: press the LT button.
- PS3, PS4: press the L2 button.
- Wii U, Nintendo Switch: press the ZL button
After feeding the pigs, you'll notice red hearts appear. This signifies that the pigs are entering love mode.

Once the red hearts disappear, a baby piglet will appear. It typically takes about 20 minutes for the piglet to mature. However, you can speed up that process by feeding the piglet.
And you must wait 5 minutes before your adult pigs will be able to breed again.

That's how to breed pigs in Minecraft! Minecraft pigs are passive mobs that can be ridden with a saddle and a carrot on a stick. They drop pork chops upon death.
