Items Needed To Create A Piston
- 4 Cobblestones
- 3 Wood planks (any type)
- 1 Iron ingot
- 1 Redstone
Steps To Make A Piston
1. Open Your Crafting Menu
First, let's open your crafting menu in Minecraft. You should see the same grid as in the image below.

2. Add Items To The Menu
In the crafting menu, add the 4 cobblestones, 3 wood planks, 1 iron ingot, and 1 Redstone to the grid.
You must add the cobblestones, wood planks, iron ingot, and Redstone to the grid exactly as shown in the image below. You can use any type of plank, including oak, spruce, birch, jungle, acacia, or dark oak wood.
In the 1st row place down 3 wood planks filing the entire row. In the 2nd-row place down 1 cobblestone in the 1st box, 1 iron ingot in the 2nd box, and 1 cobblestone in the 3rd box. In the bottom row place down 1 cobblestone in the 1st box, 1 Redstone in the 2nd box, and 1 cobblestone in the 3rd box. This is the Minecraft piston recipe.

Now that you've added the items to the grid as described above, you'll notice a piston in the box on the right.
3. Move The Piston To Your Inventory
Simply drag the piston down to your inventory so you can use it.

That's it! You now have a piston. A Minecraft piston is a mechanism block that can be used to push moveable blocks and players when activated with Redstone. Pistons can also be used to get a dragon egg.
You can also create sticky pistons, which work like regular pistons but they also pull the block back. Check out our video on making sticky pistons!
