How To Plant Beetroot In Minecraft
1. Find Or Place Down Water
First, we need to find a small area of water or create your own. In our example, we have dug a hole 5 blocks long and filled it with water.

2. Use Your Hoe
Next, select a hoe in your Hotbar (any hoe will do) and prepare the ground around the water. You can use the hoe by using the following controls on your game controller:
- Java Edition (PC/Mac), Windows 10 Edition, Education Edition: right-click on the block.
- Pocket Edition (PE): tap on the block.
- Xbox 360, Xbox One: press the LT button.
- PS3, PS4: press the L2 button.
- Wii U, Nintendo Switch: press the ZL button.

After you have used the hoe and removed the topsoil from the ground, you'll notice the blocks have turned brown. They are now ready for planting your beetroot seeds.
3. Plant The Seeds
Select the beetroot seeds in your Hotbar and plant them onto the blocks of soil that you previously used your hoe on. Plant your seeds using the following controls on your game controller:
- Java Edition (PC/Mac), Windows 10 Edition, Education Edition: right-click on the block.
- Pocket Edition (PE): tap on the block.
- Xbox 360, Xbox One: press the LT button.
- PS3, PS4: press the L2 button.
- Wii U, Nintendo Switch: press the ZL button.

Once you have planted your beetroot seeds, you'll begin to see them grow. We can speed up that process using fertilizer!
4. Fertilize The Plants
Your beetroot will slowly grow over-time. Planted beetroot will go through 4 stages of growth. However, we can speed that up by fertilizing the plants with bonemeal.
Select bonemeal in your Hotbar and use the following game controls to fertilize your beetroot plants:
- Java Edition (PC/Mac), Windows 10 Edition, Education Edition: right-click on the plant.
- Pocket Edition (PE): tap on the plant.
- Xbox 360, Xbox One: press the LT button.
- PS3, PS4: press the L2 button.
- Wii U, Nintendo Switch: press the ZL button.

As you use the bonemeal, you'll notice the plants grow. Once your beetroot farm is fully-grown, we can harvest the plant.
5. Harvest The Beetroot
Lastly, we will want to harvest the crop. To do this, you simply break the beetroot crops using the following controls on your game controller:
- Java Edition (PC/Mac), Windows 10 Edition, Education Edition: left-click on the plant.
- Pocket Edition (PE): tap on the plant and hold.
- Xbox 360, Xbox One: press the RT button.
- PS3, PS4: press the R2 button.
- Wii U, Nintendo Switch: press the ZR button.

After you break the plant you'll notice a beetroot floating where the plant was. Be sure to pick the beetroot up before it disappears.
And that's it! Minecraft beetroot is a food item that when eaten will restore 1 hunger and 1.2 hunger saturation. They can also be used to lead and breed pigs, making red dye, and as an ingredient in beetroot soup.
